In relation
to Comprehensive Pre-Placement Medicals;
Equal
opportunity and disability discrimination legislation ensures
the person’s ability to do the work is the paramount
consideration.
It is the employer’s and the health professionals concern that
the work can be carried out with safety to the employee and
others, regardless of disability. Pre-placement medicals and the
decisions made in respect of them are upstanding if they are
based on the essential requirements of a position. With a view
to this, the employer should forward a job description outlining
the physical requirements and the types of hazards that would
significantly impact on the health and safety of the employee.
Armed with this information, the examining doctor can make a
recommendation on suitability for the position.
